MS/HS Reading-Writing/Literature Response

In this intensive institute, learn to use Dinah Zike's Foldables and Visual Kinesthetic Vocabulary manipulatives as vital literacy tools in building connections between reading and writing. Engage students with 3-D interactive graphic organizers as you help them build skills in developing their own responses to literature.

Foldables are tools used to help students:

develop deep, lasting understanding of content material by re-coding text and graphics, including electronic media and real-world print;
connect what they read to what they can produce in written and visual formats;
develop academic language skills and build personally meaningful vocabulary;
write "a little, a lot" across the content areas; and
develop literacy strategies for successful communication

Assessment, differentiation, and integration of learning techniques are emphasized, along with underlying evidence base. Inform curricular decision-making with your newfound knowledge of 3-D interactive graphic organizers. This course has a grades 6-12 focus.
